Fernie Pride Society is pleased to offer a position for a community-minded, compassionate, and eager individual to fill our position of Youth Coordinator. If you agree with the following statements, we want you to apply:

Hours: 10-15 hours per month

Rate of Pay: $25/hr

Job Term: This is a six month position with the possibility of extension.

Job Details: This is a Contract Position and the successful applicant is responsible for their own CRA reporting and associated payables. Fernie Pride Society is to be invoiced monthly for services provided. Applicants are independent contractors and will not be an employee of Fernie Pride Society.

Purpose: The Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for working in partnership with the Fernie Pride Society Executive Director and the Fernie Pride Youth Committee to run the Elk Valley Youth Pride Program, working directly with 2SLGBTQ+ youth and allies. The Youth Engagement Coordinator contributes to the overall success of the organization by effectively planning and implementing social youth programs, drop-in spaces, and events.  

Physical Requirements: The successful applicant must be able to lift tables, chairs, program materials, etc when setting up for events and activities as required.

Start Date: August 1, 2024

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizing monthly local events for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and allies
  • Make referrals to the Fernie Pride Board regarding immediate needs of 2SLGBTQ+ youth
  • Conduct regular outreach for programming
  • Provide support to local 2SLGBTQ+ youth leaders and allies
  • Represent the Fernie Pride Society in the community
  • Maintain program records and any additional records as deemed appropriate
  • Provide monthly written activity reports to the Fernie Pride Society Board of Directors
  • Form a strong alliance with collaborating partners
  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends as youth events require
  • Provide support to Elk Valley school GSA’s as requested
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A passion for empowering youth
  • Able to provide a clean Criminal Record Check 
  • Has a valid drivers license
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgement
  • Related experience providing direct service to youth
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Experience facilitating workshops/meetings/events/activities
  • Has access to personal computer and internet connection
  • Basic understanding of social media
  • Basic first aid is a bonus but not necessary
  • Has a positive attitude and is not afraid to think creatively

The Fernie Pride Society supports and connects the 2SLGBTQ+ community in the Elk Valley.  Incorporated in December 2016, the Society is a hub for 2SLGBTQ+ people and their allies, programming special events as well as providing resource referrals.
