Elk Valley Pride Festival kicks off in Fernie running from September 18th – 22nd 2024.
With the vibrant colour changes beginning to sweep through the valley, September is a beautiful time of years to come and visit Fernie. There is bound to be something for the everybody with an open-mind over the course of our five day celebration of diversity in the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
We’ve put together a list to highlight the best family-friendly events great for kids and young adults you’ll find this week. All activities here are free and everyone is welcome.
Bike Decorating & Pride Bike Parade
You’ll find us at the Fernie Arts Station on Sept 18th 2024 and you’re welcome to join us in decking out your wheels ready for the Pride Bike Parade the following day. With all craft supplies will be kindly provided, just bring your bike and imagination.
Pride Bike Parade will follow shortly after the Flag Raising and Opening Remarks on Thursday 19th September 2024, with a mass start leaving Fernie City Hall at 6pm.
Drag Story & Craft Time
Lead by Ms. Anie, and Ms Laura, they are also joined this year by our fabulous Drag Queen, Ella Lamoureux, plus a special guest or two joining the fun. Expect an engaging morning of song, rhymes, activities and stories which will have your kids up on their feet, and provide a bit of a relaxing time out for their accompanying adults and parents (though you’re fully welcome to participate).
Thank you to Columbia Basin Trust for Literacy for putting on Drag Story & Craft time.
Teen DJ Werkshop with SNCK (& Snacks)
Yes, there will be snacks, as well as Fernie’s favourite DJ duo hitting the decks!
No experience required just a willingness to laugh, groove, and learn! This activity is for all youth aged 12-17.
Queer Skate Jam
We’re excited that Queer Skate Jam is back again. Edge of the World will be set up all afternoon outside Fernie City Hall. This session is always a casual and non-intimidating sweet environment to meet new friends, learn something new, and you may even win a prize or two.
As a bonus, you’ll be in a prime spot to catch the live music and festivities of Spectrum Queer Arts Day happening on stage just across the green.
Spectrum Queers Arts Days
We love nothing more than to get up and dance to live music. This year’s lineup features Blonde Diamond, Parlour Panther, and Hyaenas, as well as a whole host of drag entertainment hosted from Nada Nuff and Ella Lamoureux, and other special guests.
