SUMMARY:Hiring: Project Manager - Columbia Basin Pride Guide and Queer History Project
DESCRIPTION:Fernie Pride is excited to find our new Project Manager for the Columbia Basin Pride Guide and Queer History Project! \n\n\n\nThis is a contract position open to people residing in the Columbia Basin region and can be primarily remote with some in-person requirements as necessary. \n\n\n\nThe Project Manager is responsible for the successful management and coordination of the Columbia Basin 2SLGBTQ+ Pride Guide and Queer History Project. This two-year project is multifaceted and involves working with multiple community partners and organizations. \n\n\n\nThis position starts March 1\, 2025 with a six month review and a pay rate of $40/hour. The successful candidate is an independent contractor and will not be an employee of Fernie Pride. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEmployment Opportunity \n\n\n\nColumbia Basin 2SLGBTQ+ Pride Guide and Queer History Project \n\n\n\nProject Manager \n\n\n\nFernie Pride Society is pleased to offer a position for a community-minded\, compassionate\, and eager individual to fill our position of Project Manager. If you agree with the following statements\, we want you to apply: \n\n\n\n\nYou enjoy contributing to your community using collaboration and relationship building\n\n\n\nYou enjoy research\, data collection\, and project execution.\n\n\n\nYou love teamwork but are great at working independently.\n\n\n\nYou live in the Columbia Basin region.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHours: Up to 40 hours per month \n\n\n\nRate of Pay: $40 per hour for duration of contract \n\n\n\nJob Term: March 1\, 2025 to March 31\, 2027 \n\n\n\nJob Details: This is a Contract Position and the successful applicant is responsible for their own CRA reporting and associated payables. Fernie Pride Society is to be invoiced monthly for services provided. Applicants are independent contractors and will not be an employee of Fernie Pride Society. The successful candidate will be subject to a six-month (September 1\, 2025) evaluation for contract extension. \n\n\n\nPurpose: The Project Manager is responsible for working in partnership with the Fernie Pride Society Board of Directors and the Fernie Pride Executive Director to manage and coordinate the Columbia Basin 2SLGBTQ+ Pride Guide and Queer History Project. The Project Manager contributes to the overall success of the organization by effectively implementing this important Columbia Basin project. \n\n\n\nKey components of the project are: \n\n\n\nThe Kootenay Pride Guide: this guide will comprehensively map the region and share the tools\, services\, businesses\, and organizations that directly serve the 2SLGBTQ+ community and allies. The Guide will be available in print and online versions allowing residents and visitors to readily access information. In rural areas\, it is common for people to travel to neighbouring towns for health care\, groceries\, etc. The Guide will allow them to gain insight into what services and resources are offered\, where they are\, and how to access them – an invaluable tool for Queer people in rural southeast British Columbia. Think of it as a Yellow Pages for the queer community. \n\n\n\nColumbia Basin Queer History Project: The Columbia Basin has a long history of 2SLGBTQ+ people creating change and claiming space. Our history is disappearing rapidly for a multitude of reasons as well as the fact that queer history is also a victim of rural isolation. Over the last century there are definite pockets of Queer communities surviving and thriving in the Columbia Basin but often these groups existed in quiet silos due to rural politics\, religion\, violence\, and geography. Working with Kevin Allen\, Historian in Residence at the Calgary Central Library\, author of the best-selling book: Our Past Matters: Stories of Gay Calgary\, and founder of the Calgary Gay History Project\, you will assist in the  preservation of regional Queer History which will result in a book\, website\, and travelling display materials. \n\n\n\nPhysical Requirements: The successful applicant should be able to lift tables\, chairs\, program materials\, etc when setting up for events and activities as required or have access to supports that can assist in accomplishing these tasks as required. \n\n\n\nHow to Apply: Please send a cover letter and resume as one .pdf document to info@ferniepride.ca. Please indicate “Project Manager – YOUR NAME” in the subject line. Applications accepted until 5pm\, February 14\, 2025. The position will remain open if we are unable to fill the position at that time. \n\n\n\nPrimary Responsibilities\n\n\n\n\nEnsuring project partners adhere to provided timelines and deliverables\n\n\n\nEnsuring documentation is maintained throughout the length of the project\n\n\n\nCommunicating plans\, actions\, risks\, and issues to Fernie Pride and key stakeholders\n\n\n\nManaging and building relationships with multiple partner organizations\n\n\n\nManaging day-to-day activities for the Columbia Basin 2SLGBTQ+ Mapping and History Project\n\n\n\nAnalyzing project data and producing monthly progress reports in advance of Fernie Pride Board meetings\n\n\n\nCoordinate internal and external resources\, ensuring that the Project remains within scope\, schedule\, and budget\n\n\n\nOrganizing project outreach events and presentations\n\n\n\nRepresent Fernie Pride Society in the community\n\n\n\nForm a strong alliances with collaborating partners\n\n\n\nOther duties as assigned\n\n\n\n\nQualifications:\n\n\n\n\nA passion for collaboration and team projects\n\n\n\nValid driver license and vehicle as some travel throughout the Columbia Basin will be required\n\n\n\nExcellent interpersonal skills and sound judgement\n\n\n\nExperience in coordinating multiple project partners and stakeholders\n\n\n\nExperience in long-term project execution and management\n\n\n\nStrong oral and written communication skills\n\n\n\nStrong presentation skills\n\n\n\nTime management skills\n\n\n\nDemonstrated organizational skills\n\n\n\nExperience facilitating workshops/meetings/events/activities\n\n\n\nHas access to personal computer and internet connection\n\n\n\nBasic understanding of social media\n\n\n\nBasic understanding of Word\, Excel\, Power Point\, Zoom\, etc\n\n\n\nHas a positive attitude and is not afraid to think creatively\n\n\n\nStrong attention to deadlines and budgetary guidelines\n\n\n\nMust be available to work some evenings and weekends as required\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIf this sounds like you\, Fernie Pride Society encourages you to apply! \n\n\n\nFernie Pride Society is committed to employment equity and prioritizes applications from underrepresented groups. In recognition of structural and systemic barriers to education and employment\, we will work with applicants where possible to address gaps in experience; professional development funding is potentially available on an annual basis. Fernie Pride values the experiences and skill sets gained through non-traditional employment; including lived experience\, unpaid or emotional labour\, and community organizing. \n\n\n\nWe encourage applications from qualified candidates who reflect the diversity of our communities. If you have a disability and require accessibility accommodations throughout all stages of the application and employment process\, please contact info@ferniepride.ca. \n\n\n\nFernie Pride acknowledges that we reside on land located within Qukin ʔamakʔis\, the unceded traditional territory of Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi’it. SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn with Dustin Dufault
DESCRIPTION:Dustin Dufault is a two-spirited person from the Yukon Territory. A proud Kaska Dena First Nations individual. Growing up in small northern towns he’s had to suppress her individuality and learn to express himself in a multitude of alternative ways. Art and performing were her outlets. Learning to love the journey was the first step in their happiness. Dustin became enamoured with Drag and later developed her drag personality Ella Lamoureux. Expressing himself in an extreme feminine way taught him that femininity is not to be avoided but embraced. Through drag she’s realized that Dustin and Ella are not separate people but one person. Just shown with a different light. \n\n\n\nGrowing up fabulous in the North has many tough lessons but s/he would not be the person they are today without those lessons. Through the art of drag Dustin/Ella has embraced their femininity and helped them on their journey of cultural/two-spirit identity. Learn about their journey and how to incorporate little acts of decolonization into your daily life. \n\n\n\nTickets are $15/person and includes both the talk and lunch. We will try our best to accommodate dietary needs but cannot guarantee it!  \n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets
