Keep it Colourful Elk Valley!

Fernie and Elk Valley people, we would love for you to show your colours! Pride does not have to be limited to just a few days so let’s keep Pride going all month long by putting a splash of colour into September!

Decorate your lawn or deck, line up your ROYGBIV book spines, paint some rocks, wear some amazing socks… or if you have a storefront, make an awesome window display — we love to see your colours!

Are you a retailer or restaurant and have some cool promotions or products? Let us know and we will highlight them on our social media!So keep it colourful and creative and let’s make September bright!

September is the time to show your Fernie Pride so celebrate the Elk Valley Pride Festival all month long with a fun and colourful Fernie Pride Society button!

Buttons are available to purchase by donation and it could not be any easier! Put your donation in the jar at either the Fernie Arts Station, the Fernie Heritage Library, Barkside Pets, Freyja Lifestyle Fashion, or the Fernie Museum.

Funds raised are directed to ensure the continuation of diverse and inclusive programming in the Elk Valley.

The Elk Valley Pride Festival is officially back for the fourth year from September 24-27 and we are so excited! To keep up to date on all the amazing happenings please make sure to visit the Festival page. Details and ticket links will be added as they arise so check frequently!

We are trying to keep as many of the events this year in the out-of-doors so please make sure to dress appropriately for all weather conditions. Tents will be provided as needed. Also, please note that food and beverages will not be available but you are welcome to bring your own nonalcoholic drinks and snacks — no sharing outside of your social bubble!

FPS Board Welcomes Youth Member


We are so excited to welcome Easton to the board of the Fernie Pride Society! Easton is stepping into the newly created Youth Member position and we could not be more thrilled to have her voice, perspective, and enthusiasm help guide us. A little about Easton:

“My name is Easton (she/her) and I am a grade 12 student in Fernie. I love biking, roller skating and all things musical. I am super exited to now be a part of the Fernie Pride Board!”

We cannot wait to have Easton join us at our August Board Meeting and look forward to creating new and exciting programming and initiatives with her and Elk Valley youth!

Rainbow Connections Summer Splash!

Join the Fernie Pride Society on Friday, August 14 at 5:30pm at Maiden Lake for a Rainbow Connections Summer Splash!

Let’s meet at the lake for a paddle and a picnic. Not a water baby? No worries as there is plenty of grass to spread out a blanket and relax on.

As always….no alcoholic beverages, no sharing food, bring hand sanitizer, and maintain physical distance please!

Floaties, paddle boards, noodles….oh my!

Transgender Reproductive Health Research Study


A new online research study, Transgender Reproductive Health (TRH): Contraceptive and Pregnancy Health Care Experiences is looking for participants. T

The goal of the study is to learn about the experiences of transgender and non-binary individuals when accessing healthcare for contraception, preconception and pregnancy care.

This study is for people who live in Canada, are aged 18 years and older and were born with a uterus.This online research survey is available in English or French and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. The survey will be open until August 31.

This study is funded by a small grant from Alberta Health Services (AHS) Research Challenge program. The AHS research challenge is a professional development opportunity for AHS front-line clinical staff to increase knowledge and skills to access, conduct and apply best-practice research. For the challenge, teams submit research project ideas based on clinical need and professional interest.

Covid-19 Community Assistance Funding

Are you a resident of the Elk Valley, LGBTQ2+, and are experiencing financial strain due to Covid-19? The Fernie Pride Society has a defined amount of funding available to assist with food, medical, and prescription needs.

Please contact to obtain info and assistance. This project is limited and will cease once all funding is distributed. Thank you to the Vancouver Foundation for their support in making this happen.

Montane Meet-Up

The next Rainbow Connections evening is on Friday, July 10 at 5:30pm! We will be taking a stroll up to the Montane Hut, picnicking with the amazing view, and then heading home.

Please meet at the Montane Barn parking lot on Coal Creek Road at 5:30pm for a 5:45pm start of the walk.

Please wear appropriate shoes, BYO picnic/snacks, remember the Covid rules….AND 
pack it in, pack it out and leave no trash behind. See you there!

Open Mic Night

Join the Fernie Pride Society and host Taryn McKenna for an evening of open mic performances from the comfort of wherever you happen to be! All ages, all performance types welcome but please keep it clean!

This event will be via Zoom and performer sign-up will be on the chat function. Registration to attend is available through Eventbrite on either our Facebook event page or click here.

Let’s come together for a fun, virtual gathering where we can socialize, sing, and just generally celebrate the talents of the LGBTQ2+ community and allies.
